These devotionals do exactly what they say on the tin! They are plain and simple, yet not dull or simplistic. These devotions are biblical and accessible, and I wholeheartedly recommend them to you. They fill a great need in the church for those who would love to know more about the Lord but maybe struggle with heavy reading.
Chris‘s daily devotions do indeed explore the book of Jonah in a plain and simple format—they are wonderful! For those of us who find reading long, complicated books a challenge, these devotions are perfect. With a consistent structure that simply gets to the heart of the Bible passage, these reflections are laid out in an easy-to-read, clear format. They are truly accessible to all, and I would highly recommend them.
Sometimes, you just need a very simple set of devotions that take you to a simple, biblical truth and help you to apply it. These notes by Chris Dalton take away anything too unnecessary and help you to focus on the Bible passage for the day, questions that unlock some of its meaning for us, and space to pray too. We're looking at these as options for our youth group gifts, as they're great ways to help those who are a bit nervous about Bible reading to get started! This edition, focused on Jesus, will take them through Jesus' life and help them to see how his claim to be God truly is life-changing.
A wonderfully simple new devotional from Chris Dalton.
The book is structured with thirty days of devotionals. Each day follows a similar format:
- Scripture Reference
- What's Going On: quick summary of main points
- Some Things to Notice: a quick note on a part of the scripture that may not be easy to grasp
- More Info: additional cultural or other insights to help understand the scripture
- Some Questions to Think About
- Some Words to Pray
Each day is extremely short and very simple. You will get out of it what you put into it. You can fly through it to check it off a list or you can be intentional with your time and truly dig deep to gain a better understanding of scripture and Christ.
Dalton covers the true story of Jesus by discussing eight passages from all the Gospels. As he notes in his introduction: "We will get a bigger picture of who Jesus is by seeing His life from different angles." That is the goal of this devotional.
Although the simplicity of the devotional was not my style, it can serve as a great introduction for someone who is new to devotionals. It is not overwhelming or intimidating all while capturing the Christ.
