An expository Bible-study guide to the first half of John's Gospel, showing how the Word became flesh to offer life to the full.
Part of the God's Word For You series.
Josh Moody helps those new to John to dip their toes in its waters, while also showing new depths to those more familiar with this Gospel. Jesus came to bring life to the full—and in showing us his seven signs, John pictures the fulfillment that comes from living life as a follower of the Word become flesh.
This Expository Guide takes you verse by verse through the text in an accessible and applied way. It is less academic than a traditional commentary and can be read cover-to-cover, used in personal devotions, used to lead small group studies, or used for sermon preparation.

After reading Timothy Keller's books on Galatians and Romans in this series, I was excited to try Josh Moody's 2-volume set on John. I wish I hadn't. I didn't even get through the first volume before giving up in frustration. It is very poorly organized, poorly written, overly "preachy" and unhelpful. The book apparently was not reviewed by an editor at all, which I thought was a standard part of the publishing process. This embarrassing set should be removed from the series and replaced by something intelligible and thoughtful, as Dr. Keller's books are. I'm not sure I will feel confident enough to buy any more books in this series, after trying this.
I've been using this book alongside the 'Good Book Guide to John 1-12' to lead several one-to-one and small-group studies of John's Gospel. The book is easy to read, well-structured and extremely insightful. I have learnt a great deal about the theology of John's Gospel, as well as how to apply its teaching to my life. I would highly recommend it as a resource to facilitate your own learning as preparation to serve others.
