Our favourite books of 2013

Helen Thorne | Dec. 30, 2013

It won't come as a surprise that many of us here at The Good Book Company are avid readers. Good books, or not so good books, we dip in to as many as we can! As we approach the end of another year, we thought we'd share with you some of our favourite titles of the past 12 months. Feel free to add your favourites at the end...

Carl (Senior Editor)
Wolf Hall by Hillary Mantel. Brings history to life, brings characters to life, and challenges your own easy assumptions... And it means you can say you read a Booker-prize winning novel!

James (Commercial Director)
Serving without Sinking by John Hindley. I've had a tough year and this book has been a great encouragement for me to keep looking to Christ and keep going in his strength. In fact I've read it twice!

Andy (Head of Customer Services)
The Corner by David Simon. An incredible insight into life on the streets of Baltimore; had me in tears by the end of it.

Richard (Customer Services Team)
Galatians for You by Tim Keller. I used it in my Quiet Time, and found it had an excellent balance of good background information, concise, clear explanation of different views, clear exposition of the meaning of the text and very good application to our lives.

Tim (Creative Director)
Lionel Asbo: State of England by Martin Amis. Read this with my men's bookgroup - fun, crazy, cruel and tragic by turns and a great insight into the chaos and poverty trap on an inner city estate, as well as observations about the craziness of life for a lottery winner.

Helen (Blog Editor)
Ordinary Hero by Tim Chester. Great encouragement to live for Jesus in every aspect of my life.

Tom (Logistics Manager)
Eternity Changes Everything by Stephen Witmer. It was a good reminder about where we're going and just how awesome it's going to be. A good way to fix my eyes on heaven and not get distracted by the things of this world.

Phil (Film & Media Editor)
Our Father by Richard Coekin. A wonderful reminder of the character of our great God and the privilege of praying to Him as Jesus taught. Would love to read it again in 2014.
