The end of the year means that the internet is awash with “best books of the year” lists. So here’s a list of our own—The Good Book Company’s bestsellers of 2016, ranked by revenue. (If we measure by numbers of copies sold then our tracts and leaflets win almost every time).
Revenue is (relatively) easy for humans to measure—but we rejoice that God alone knows the full measure of the gospel impact of all of our resources.
Top 3 new releases (published in 2016):
3. Zeal without Burnout by Christopher Ash
Christopher Ash is a man who has found himself on the edge of burnout a number of times—and he wrote this practical little book in the hope of saving others in pastoral ministry from the same experience. Judging by the response we’ve had since publishing this book in May, this subject definitely struck a chord.
2. The Garden, the Curtain and the Cross by Carl Laferton and Catalina Echeverri
We launched this beautiful hardback storybook back in February in the run-up to Easter—but this 32-page tour through the Bible’s big storyline has proved immensely popular all year round.
1. Christmas Playlist by Alistair Begg
We’re thrilled that churches and individuals have given out thousands of copies of Alistair Begg’s clear and engaging explanation of the gospel over the last couple of months.
Top 3 backlist titles (published before 2016):
3. Is God Anti-gay? by Sam Allberry
We’ve sold over 100,000 copies of this book since it launched in 2013. Sam Allberry’s thoughtful explanation of the Bible’s teaching on homosexuality remains as relevant now as ever.
2. Honest Evangelism by Rico Tice
Rico Tice, founder of Christianity Explored Ministries, brought decades of evangelism experience together in this powerful little book, published in 2015. There’s hostility to the gospel, but also great hunger for the good news of Jesus.
1. Galatians For You by Timothy Keller
Tim Keller’s expository guide to Galatians was published in 2013. It continues to help Christians understand, apply and teach Paul’s book of gospel dynamite.
Top 3 Curriculum:
3. Gospel Shaped Worship by Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson shows how the church should be a worshiping community. The first in a five-part curriculum published in partnership with The Gospel Coalition.
Christianity Explored has been used to introduce people to the person of Jesus Christ for decades. The resource was given a classy new look in May 2016 ahead of the launch of Life Explored.
We were thrilled by the response to the launch on Life Explored in September 2016. This new outreach course developed by Christianity Explored Ministries helps people uncover what they’re really living for, and shows that the greatest pleasure in life is enjoying God himself.
