Older adults are the fastest-growing age demographic across the Western world, and yet there are few materials to support churches who want to help this older generation hear about God’s love. How can our churches be equipped to reach out to older people in our communities?
Hymns We Love aims to meet this need. It is a gentle evangelistic course which uses well-loved hymns to share the good news of Jesus and key truths about God’s character in an accessible way. Many in this generation have grown up singing these hymns at school, church or Sunday school, and they have therefore proved to be a non-threatening and accessible way to connect with seniors and help them to engage with the gospel.
The series comprises five video sessions. Each one tells the story of the hymn writer, how the hymn came to be, and the Christian message behind it. Across the five sessions, Hymns We Love will help bring the core truths of the Christian story alive in a way that is gentle, warm and clear.
The video sessions also feature beautiful renditions of the hymns, filmed in a historic English village church, along with testimonies and prayers.
Below you can sample the Leader's Guide and video for Session 1, which gives an outline of what a typical session will look like. This first session focuses on the hymn How Great Thou Art, written by Swedish sailor-turned-hymn writer, Carl Boberg. As you lead your guests through this uplifiting hymn (either using the video below or delivering the material in-person if preferred), they'll learn more about our wonderful creator God and the relationship he invites us into.

Hymns We Love is written and presented by Pippa Cramer and her husband Steve. Pippa serves on staff at Holy Trinity Claygate, Surrey, UK, with responsibility for ministry to seniors, and in 2022 was awarded an MBE in recognition of her work with older and vulnerable people. Pippa Cramer serves on staff at Holy Trinity Claygate, Surrey, UK, with responsibility for ministry to seniors, and in 2022 was awarded an MBE in recognition of her work with older and vulnerable people. Pippa is the founder of Connections – one of the largest Church based gatherings for seniors in the UK - and she is passionate about loving and caring for older people, reducing loneliness and giving seniors the opportunity to find hope in the gospel. Pippa is a qualified Occupational Therapist, having specialised in the support and care of older people, she is an Ambassador for Faith in Later Life, and in 2021 she was awarded The Alphege Award for Evangelism and Witness by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.
