“Christmas Fun for the Whole Family”

I received The Christmas Story Brick By Brick compliments of The Good Book Company in exchange for my honest review.

The Christmas Story Brick By Brick is a fun retelling of Jesusā€˜s birth. Rather than using illustrations, this book uses scenes built out of Legos. The scenes are still shots from the video The Story of Christmas by Go Chatter Studios and the bookā€™s text uses some of the lines of that video (Go Chatter Media Ltd and The Good Book Company partnered in publishing this book).

The story is told in rhyming format which is sure to captivate children and help them easily remember the details of when Jesus came and why. I love that the book mentions all three persons of the Trinity. The book does show the magi coming to bring gifts to Jesus in the manger.

According to the Bible, the magi most likely were not present the night of Jesusā€™s birth as they arrived after it (Matthew 2:1) and after their visit, Herod ordered all male children under two to be put to death (Matthew 2:16) making it likely that Jesus was a toddler at the time of their visit. I plan to use this scene as an opportunity to teach my children about the magiā€™s visit and where it falls in the timeline of Jesusā€™s birth.

The Christmas Story Brick By Brick is a wonderful Christmas resource, especially for kids who love Legos! I love this book and look forward to reading it repeatedly with my kids this Christmas season!

“Excellent Giveaway”

I LOVE these LEGO Christmas resources, and weā€™ve used the LEGO videos in our services at Christmas before, so we are so glad that there is now a book version! Itā€™s a very simple version of the Christmas story and a perfect giveaway at crib services, carol services and to your toddler groups and Sunday school groups. Weā€™re hoping to place a bulk order for this Christmasā€™s evangelistic services as theyā€™ll be a perfect gift for families!

“Love this book and hoping for more like it!”

What a great book for kids! The Christmas Story Brick-by-Brick is creative and engaging for children. Combining the beautiful mystery of the Christmas story with fun illustrations that resemble legos, this book will be popular with many families. The graphics and word bubbles as well as the banners of narration are so inviting for children. The simple to read and rhyming makes it fun and easy for children to read as well. There is a clear reflection of Scripture with a faithfulness to not add or detract from Godā€™s Word. At the end, there are also instructions for building your own nativity from lego bricks. So fun! This would be fun to even read while your kids build their nativity.

The only thing missing, in my opinion, is a brief blurb at the beginning or end of where to find the actual story in the Bible. While this is a popular portion of Scripture and likely easy to find for many, Iā€™m hoping they release many more books like this and the inclusion of where to find in the Bible would be a great addition.

“Super creative & engaging!”

If you have a lego lover, then this is the book for them this holiday season.

This book chronicles the Christmas story on a Lego scene backdrop. And it is SO fun to study the pictures and all the Lego creations. The rhyming story emphasizes how Mary, Joseph, the shepherds etc. did not expect Jesus to choose them or come in this way which I really enjoyed.

I also LOVE that there is a QR code at the back of the book which includes 5 different nativity builds your child can make.

One note: this is a paperback book. The positive of that is itā€™s less expensive; the negative of course is thatā€™s itā€™s not as sturdy/more prone to bending. Iā€™m a hardback girl, but I know some people actually prefer paperbacks, and I do think this one is worth it.

Note: like many other Christmas books, this does show the wise men at the manger scene vs. a later depiction when Jesus was older.

I received a review copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

“Engaging & Creative”

The amount of time involved in the creation of the illustrations in this book must have been incredible! The rhyming yet simple text is great for the little ones.

“Creative and Engaging”

4.5 stars, rounded up.

This paperback picture book retells the Christmas story in simple, kid-friendly language, and its unique selling point is that the illustrations are photos of Lego builds. The brick builds from Joshua Whitehouse are intricate, action-packed, and full of fascinating details, and Rachael Hood's writing is simple and engaging. She tells the story through rhyming text and occasional speech bubbles, and this picture book is accurate and faithful to the source material, except for the portrayal of the Wise Men visiting Jesus at the manager. Families that are sticklers for accuracy will hopefully give a pass on this, since it's part of the Lego set-up and resembles a typical manager scene.

In addition to describing the basic events of Nativity story, the author also expresses themes and ideas related to the gospel. She explains at the beginning, "God's people were waiting for God's special plan. For he'd promised a King filled with power and might who could banish the bad stuff and make all things right!" She shows how Jesus fulfilled God's promises in surprising ways, and the conclusion of the book shows that Jesus is God, and that he became a human and made himself poor so that he could rescue us.

"The Christmas Story Brick by Brick" is perfect for Lego-loving kids, and is a fun and fresh way to share the Nativity story. This is a great book for Christian families to enjoy together, and because it is an inexpensive paperback, this would also make a great giveaway in a children's ministry setting. This book also includes pictures in the back of five simple builds that kids can do to set up their own Nativity scene, and there are instructions available for download on the publisher's website. Overall, this is an engaging book that is unique without being gimmicky, and it will appeal to Lego fans of all ages.

I received a free copy from the publisher, and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

“Great, Fun Christmas Retelling!”

My kids love building things, they love to read, and Christmas is their favorite time of year. Itā€™s fun to combine all of these, and I canā€™t wait to share this book with them. Theyā€™re sure to love it.

The story is told in rhyme, and flows well. I appreciate all of the thought and work that went into this whole creation. I think itā€™s cleverly done.

I also love that they have building instructions provided. Itā€™ll be fun for kids to make projects that follow-along and match the story.

Definitely a fun, cute book! A great way to share the Christmas story with your kids.

“Unique and Faithful Biblical Retelling”

If youā€™re looking for a fresh and unique way to share the Nativity story with your little ones, then The Christmas Story: Brick by Brick by Rachael Hood with builds by Joshua Whitehouse is a must-have!

This book could not have come at a better time. We went to Legoland over the summer and watched the Lego movies for the first time when we got back. All of this sparked a love of Legos for my 5-year-old daughter. She was so excited to read this book, and we spent a lot of time looking at the very impressive and masterful builds by Joshua Whitehouse. If you have a fellow Lego-loving kiddo then they will adore this book too, and there is a link at the end of the book to learn how to build your own Nativity!

While the builds will captivate even the littlest oneā€™s attention, the writing is just as enchanting. It is written as a rhyme and flows beautifully, following a repetitive pattern with the words, ā€œThey didnā€™t expect it. Theyā€™d never have guessed.ā€ It is a faithful Biblical retelling of the birth of Christ that is a joy to read aloud. Yes, it shows the wise men by the manger, but this book was leading to the building of the Nativity scene as we know it at Christmas. And the build is stunning!!

ā€œGodā€™s people were waiting for Godā€™s special plan. For heā€™d promised a King filled with power and might who could banish the bad stuff and make all things right!ā€ This plan unfurls clearly and simply for all ages to comprehend, ending with Jesus is here! The answer to Godā€™s special plan is Jesus, which is the ultimate message of this book even as you gaze at the builds of the angels, the shepherds, the wise men, and many more.

This book would make such a wonderful Christmas present.
