What does life with Jesus actually look like? Itâs easy to say, âIâm a Christianâ, but what does that mean for your life, your suffering, your relationships, your faith in God? Life with Jesus: Youth Edition is a fantastic resource for any young person serious about growing in their faith. Youâll love how this book helps you live life to the full as a disciple of Jesus. Gather a group, open the Bible, ask questions, hear real-life stories, and prepare to let God work in and change you. Go on, give it a go!
If you want your teenagers to be rooted in Christ, to see the world through a biblical lens because of their intimacy with Christ, and to know what it means to live for Christ in this crazy world, then let me commend Life with Jesus: Youth Edition. It is biblically sound, resonates with the issues and questions teenagers experience, and is written in a way to spark meaningful gospel conversations between youth and their leaders.
Life with Jesus: Youth Edition is a fabulous primer on the Christian life for teens! Itâs deeply biblical, highly relevant, gospel-centered, and easy for a youth leader (or parent) to pick up and use with their teens. The relatable stories, Scripture reflections, practical teaching, and interactive opening activities make this book perfect for youth groups, small groups, or one-on-one mentoring. Thank you for creating such a valuable youth ministry resource!
I was thrilled to see this option for young teens. Discipleship is a necessity within the church but is often forgotten or simply ignored because it's difficult or misunderstood. Adults struggle to implement discipleship but we are called to do so and teens are just as capable of doing so as well.
Chester and Morgan structure the book as follows:
- Introduction
- Four Parts: Putting Out Shoots, Seeing Things Differently, Connecting with God, Living it Out
- Activities and Reflections
Each part includes three sections. Each section includes four elements:
- Meet: a brief story to introduce the concept
- Bible Time: scripture reference to read relating to the story
- Think It Through: meat and potatoes of digging into the scripture concept
- Reflect: space to write additional thoughts, prayers, ideas, etc.
The book can easily be used individually or as a group. The authors include a brief leader section with pointers and suggestions on how to best utilize the book in a group setting.
The study itself is deep but remains understandable for teens.
The Activities and Reflections section was one of our favorite portions. If you have a child who learns more by hands on rather than reading, this is perfect for them. Each section has a specific activity and reflection activity to help drill down the concept discussed.
My 12-year-old son enjoyed this and learned a lot about discipleship. Of course, it will take effort and practice to implement this knowledge within his daily life.
I received a copy of this book from The Good Book Company in exchange for an honest review.
Iâm always on the hunt for rich Bible studies for my children. Ever since they were just a few years old, I noticed a gap in books for solid, reformed, Bible studies for children. After the storybook Bible age, there wasnât a whole lot out there. In recent years, Iâve seen more and more books filling that gap. The youth edition of Life with Jesus is one that Iâd recommend. Itâs marketed as âfor teensâ, but my children are 7 and 10 and with my help, this book works well for us. I think my 10 year old could even do much of it on her own during her private Bible study time.
A few things I really like about the book:
-It includes the Scripture right in the book. For younger ones, this can be especially helpful. Itâs also nice to have it in the book to circle words you donât know, make notations that go along with the study, etc.
-Itâs deep without being overwhelming. It focuses on what it means to be a disciple of Jesus in a way that is relatable and understandable to our youth. The sections are able to completed within 30 minutes.
-It includes a dictionary in each section for key words that are especially important to understand in a Biblical context.
-It has blank space for each question and reflection to keep all your notes together with the study.
-It has an application section to think through and discuss to apply what youâve been studying.
With the Scripture included in the book as well as writing space, this is really all you need. Of course you can include your own Bible as well, but for groups or children who may not have their own Bibles, this is a great all-in-one type Bible study. This book is a great resources for helping children look at what it means to live as a follower of Jesus in all areas of life.
Iâm really glad theyâve come out with this and hope they have more like it in the future!
Having read the first version of this book in the past and used it as a course with my home group, I was really encouraged to see a youth version. Iâve been looking for a course that I could use with my youth group or one to one with teenagers, and this is an excellent adaptation of Tim Chesterâs course. Some of the additions such as illustrations and extra questions are helpful in making it feel more appropriate, but the particular change that makes it very helpful is the update to the personal stories and case studies. Now that theyâre really relatable for teenagers, Iâm hoping to start trying it with one of my menteeâs soon!
So much of the Christian life isnât about what we do for God but about walking with Jesus daily. This book lays that out clearly for young readers, helping them see that faith isnât just a Sunday thingâit shapes every part of life. A solid, down-to-earth read for teens.
This is a great resource to give to a pre-teen/young teen or to use as a first discipleship tool in a youth group. Chester and Morgan write in an engaging way and communicate foundational doctrines without boredom or confusion. I would have loved to have learned these basic doctrines and truths when I first placed my trust in Jesus as a preteen, but I didnât learn many of them, like union with Christ or special revelation, until I graduated from high school.
If youâre looking for a workbook for your preteen or teen, then this is an excellent one to pick up!
My daughter ( age 11) and I went through this study together. While it is written more for small-group, weekly study, it also works well for a personal Bible study. We divided each section into 2 nights- the first half focusing on the story ( a presentation of a modern-day issue Christians may face) and the Scripture study. The next night, we deeply explored the Bible study questions and their application.
My daughter is in 5th grade, and while the book is written more for middle/HS age, it was easy for her to understand and connect the text and Scripture. I would highly recommend it, especially for someone new to their faith and looking for how to apply it to their everyday lives.
