In this book, Stephen Witmer lifts up our eyes to see beyond the “now” that presses in on us to what is eternal. More than that, he lifts up our eyes to see the eternal God in the magnificence of his redeeming purposes. What encouragement this brings to the spiritually weary and what challenge it brings to those tempted to fall sleep amidst the buzz and plenty of our modern world! This treatment of deep, biblical themes is fresh, pastoral, and stimulating. Highly commended.
If I knew the future, then surely that would affect every minute of the present. But I do know the future. Christians are going to live day after day in a gloriously renewed creation. We will see our good and kind Saviour, Jesus, face-to-face. Yet this certain future had so little impact on how I live most days. So Christ put Stephen Witmer's book in front of me. Reading it has reminded me of my future and immediately and hugely shifted my outlook on the present. I pray, and expect, that it will be a lasting change. I have already recommended this book and will keep doing so. It is a readable, simple, hopeful and deep book on a crucial topic. I think it will change our lives, churches and evangelism.
For a book dealing with the issue of eternity, this is definitely a quick read. What makes it so engaging is that Stephen comes across as so likeable and has a great illustration on almost every page. A hope filled, encouraging gem of a book. Loved it.
Everyone who wishes to advance in their Christian life and witness should read this book...plus anything else published or made available by Stephen Witmer
Good morning,
Thank you for your work
I'm so thankful that I picked up this book and read it! Every chapter moved me to tears. It created an excitement in me for new Earth like I've never experienced before. Out humbled me to think on God's great love and how he has promised that he will dwell with us once again. It created repentance in my heart for the times that I have refused to sacrifice my own desires while I'm here in this broken world when God has told me what I have to look forward to. I would definitely encourage any believer to read this book. It will encourage and strengthen your faith.
Hmm...I agree with some of the reviews in that the author encourages you to view eternity positively,but...
It would seem to me he is more concerned with a "paradise earth" than heaven. Indeed at one point, he says that,"Heaven is not as good as it gets..." and that "Heaven is not our final destination"(chapter 2) At the end of that chapter he says," what an amazing indication of the beauty of the new creation:it's better than heaven. This is the future of our world." Don't think I can agree with this in the light of scripture. If you hadn't asked me for this review, I intended getting in touch anyway... Would appreciate your feedback on this.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I found Stephen's style engaging and clear and thus finished "Eternity Changes Everything" in a single sitting! I am certainly guilty of forgetting the imminent reality of our certain eternity and at times not being restless enough for meeting Christ face to face. This book got me excited again about meeting Christ and the wonderful future we have in Him.
