We have used this (with the accompanying DVD, and leaders' guide) for the first 7 weeks of our Y10 home group for the past 4 years. We find it deeply helpful, going through the fundamentals of the Christian faith with kids who may have very differing knowledge about who Jesus is, why He came, and what that means for them. Sets up the rest of our year really well, and gives us lots to refer back to. Very accessible.
Highly recommended for teenagers.
These resources are great for discussion and giving clear messages. The videos, while a little dated, are engaging and give a solid message that students can discuss easily. Really good leader guide resources and clean and clear handbooks for participants. Course is versatile in that it is appropriate for cementing knowledge and understanding for young believers but also great for those who are new to Christianity.
I bought this material to use with a small group of teens that do Bible study with me. All of them have heard about Jesus before, but it's amazing to see them finding out who He really is, as the sessions go by. The material is complete, with ideas of activities to do with groups where members already know each other, or with recently formed groups. The videos are very well produced and straight to the point. I love it!
We're chose to use Soul to help prepare candidates for Confirmation, as this is aimed at teenagers and young adults.
The material is easy to use and has helped people to see who Jesus is and why Jesus came.
This book is excellent. We use it to teach the Gospel to vulnerable adults, many of whom have not encountered the Bible before. The accessibility of the teaching (which has been designed for young people) works very well in this context. We have also used some of the activities and games which have been fun and have helped to illustrate different points. We don't do 'talks' only small group interactive studies so I've had to adapt the talk material myself. It's also slightly confusing having the talks in a separate section at the back of the book. Overall this book has really helped us to explain the Gospel piece by piece in an accessible way - thank you!
This is the second time I have used this course and both times it has proved invaluable. Each session is very straight forward and it allows for the young people coming a chance to discuss what they think in a very relaxed way.
I tend to use the video's as it allows discussion without it being too preachy.
We have found, unsurprisingly, that some who have grown up in the church and have a bible-based background find it much easier in the first parts of the session. The un-churched ones find this part much harder to engage with. The second half, from the video onwards, it actually switches and the un-churched, we have found engage with that far more than the churched ones do.
It allows for everyone each week to feel as though they have got something out of it for themselves.
Also through the course many have made a step further towards making a commitment to following Jesus, so i can't recommend it highly enough.
This is a really handy resource for both Christian and non-Christian teens in a youth group or church weekend away. Let's you gauge where they're at spiritually and is super clear in explaining the things they may not understand. Solid stuff.
Having used the CE course successfully several times, we bought the CY Nano materials for our young youth group. Sadly, the DVD presentations were wierd (random lights and empty warehouses), and boring (I'm sure Nate is a lovely guy, but someone needs to tell him a joke - he rarely smiles).
The overall result was disappointing and we cannot recommend it - unlike the adult version, where RIco is inspiring. Sorry guys.
We chose CY because the content is Jesus centered and straight forward. The style and method are well oreinted towards the target age group and the year 2012.
4 Stars because the material is slightly UK heavy, specifically the available additional material. That doesn't bother us much though because we had to translate the whole course anyway (with permission).
