Description

Empower kids ages 3+ to connect the gospel to their own actions and attitudes! From creation and fall to redemption and sanctification, this colorful rhyming storybook captures the beauty of the gospel message through simple, practical, rhyming language and illustrations that children will love to engage with.

Focusing on the way we use our mouths, Abbey Wedgeworth helps children to see that God gave their words real power, and that this power can be used to heal or to harm. But we're not left on our own to do the right thing—we can look to Jesus as our example, ask God for forgiveness when we mess up, and receive the help of the Holy Spirit as we use our mouths for God's glory!

With bright illustrations and fun rhymes, this storybook will inspire and equip your children to follow Jesus in word and deed.

Your Magnificent Mouth is part of the Training Young Hearts series, which encourages children to gospel-centered, grace-fueled obedience. The lift-the-flap board books for toddlers focus on specific behaviors while the rhyming storybooks help kids ages 3+ to understand the gospel and apply it to their lives in a way that suits their age and stage.

Your Magnificent Mouth is so sweet, colourful, fun and accessible. We love the rhyme format of this new series and love how faithfully these books encourage gospel-focused godliness, steeped in grace. “Learn to Imitate Christ”

Kids will learn to imitate Christ with their magnificent mouths in this engaging new rhyming book from the Training Young Hearts series.

My daughter and I always enjoy reading books from this series. She’s six so these books are perfect for her age-range, but she still asks for the lift-the-flap board books too. The illustrations are vibrant and eye-catching, and the text rolls easily off the tongue, making it fun to read-aloud. We always get silly with the text and overemphasize the bolded words. “Your mouth can SING! It can whisper and SHOUT!”

While kids will learn about all the magnificent things their mouths can do (like play the kazoo and lick ice cream), they will also learn how much power their mouths can have, especially when used in a way that God did not intend: “We might use them to lie, scream, be rude or unkind.” But the book doesn’t leave us there, it shares the good news in a way that is comprehensible for all ages. “God knew we’d mess up… so he sent his Son, Jesus, so we could be saved!”

Jesus used His mouth only for good, and we should too! So use your mouth to spread the magnificent news of our Savior, “and sing and shout for Jesus, whose love and power NEVER end!”

*I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.*

“Such fabulous books!”

Following the same structure as “Your Amazing Hands” this book details all the ways we can use our mouths for good: for singing, eating, laughing and more. It also shares the ways that our mouth can be used for things it isn’t meant for… lying, saying unkind words, screaming, etc.

These books have been such a blessing in our home, providing practical talking points for addressing behaviors and teaching my kids how God desires us to use our bodies.

Every book in this series includes the gospel message: how when we choose to use our mouth (or hands or eyes or ears etc.) in ways that don’t glorify God, we can confess our sin and know that He came to save and redeem us, offering Himself in our place.

The illustrations in these books are always so darling; the characters are diverse, inclusive and such a picture of the beauty in how God designed every child.

*I received a review copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

“A Fun and Meaningful Way to Teach Kids the Power of Their Words”

Your Magnificent Mouth by Abbey Wedgeworth is a beautiful, gospel-centered book that helps young children understand the impact of their words in a simple yet powerful way. Through engaging rhymes and bright, captivating illustrations, this book makes the big truths of Scripture accessible to little hearts.

I love how it not only teaches that our words have real power—to heal or to harm—but also points kids to Jesus as the perfect example of how to use them well. It reassures them that they’re not alone in this journey, encouraging them to seek God’s help through the Holy Spirit.

This book is going to be perfect for my four-year-old! The rhyming text keeps little ones engaged, and the message is something we’ll come back to again and again in our home. I also love that it’s part of the Training Young Hearts series, which means we’ll have more resources to continue these important conversations as my child grows. Highly recommend for families looking to instill biblical truths in a fun and meaningful way!

“Gospel centered book for young children!”

This is the next book in the series for older kids, 3+. If you are farmilar with her first series of board books, these are similar but for older kids. These books present the Gospel in a practical way for children to understand and to be able to apply to their stage of life. The illustrations are brightly colored. I love how these books help parents teach the Gospel to their young children. We have used these books as a tool to teach our children the importance of how we use our bodies and that we can use them for good or bad. It presents the Gospel by showing us that we mess up and don't use our bodies in a way that pleases God, but Jesus lived perfectly and died and rose again so we can live to please Him. I love how it models asking for forgiveness and how God gives His people the Holy Spirit so we can use our bodies, (mouths in this book), the right way.

This specific book in the series has probably been my least favorite. I love this series so much, but this book wasn't my favorite.

I didn't like how it says our (lips are to smack and to kiss). I feel like for the younger kids, this worked better in the board books and a mom and child were pictured. I would want my older kids to learn that kissing is only appropriate between specific people and that some kissing isn't appropriate (we don't just go kissing anybody).

Being that God is a spirit, I feel like saying " God's magnificent mouth made the whole world with words ", is a stretch to try and fit "mouth" in. This could cause confusion though for children and I dislike it.

Thank you @thegoodbookcompanyusa for a copy for my honest thoughts!

“Simple & Profound”

This book wonderfully communicates the wonder of God who created the world by the Word of His mouth and created our mouths to give Him glory. And when we mess up with our mouth, we can turn to Jesus! The true gospel is communicated both simply and profoundly by showing that Jesus was perfection on our behalf. When we turn to Him and receive His forgiveness, we can then use our mouths to tell the most magnificent news of all!

Each book in the series is written in an engaging rhythmic pattern that’s easy to follow and communicates deep truths: the character of God, the forgiveness of Jesus, and about what our various body parts were created to do and not do. The illustrations display a diverse representation of kids and give readers the chance to see themselves on pages or learn about other types of people that God created.

Thank you to Good Book Company for a complimentary book in exchange for an honest review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.

“Kids love it, and so do I!”

This book exceeded my expectations! Not only did it talk about how God intends us to use our mouths, it also brings everything back around to the gospel! Both my 4 year old and 2 year old love it and are engaged from start to finish whenever we read it. I love growing our home library with good, godly books like this one!

“Wonderful book for teaching the power of words!”

This sweet book starts out by listing all the things your mouth was created to do (sing, taste, kiss, blow bubbles, encourage, smile etc). Then Abbey contrasts that with a list of what God did not intend us to do with our mouths (tell lies, use mean words, etc). She clearly relates this to the gospel. God knew we'd mess up so he sent Jesus who only used his mouth for God's glory.
Jesus prays for us and we can use our mouths to ask God for help.

What I loved: I appreciate how Abbey clearly reminds children of the hope we have in Jesus. Even when we sin, we only need to repent and he forgives and helps us. I always feel like the contrast between Gods purpose and our sin is helpful for kids to see (ex: using your mouth to encourage your friend vs telling lies).
This whole series has been a blessing to our family and my 3 year old loves the lift-the-flap books so much!

What I didn't love: I didn't care for the page that talks about your lips being made to kiss because there's a little girl pictured rolling her eyes and saying "Ewwww!". I don't really want to introduce this reaction to my girls yet. Right now when they see my husband and I kiss they sigh and say "that's so romantic!"...so maybe it's personal preference, but I just don't love that illustration.

Overall this is a great and helpful book! Definitely recommend grabbing a copy!

I received a gifted copy of this sweet picture book in exchange for my honest review!

“Strong message!”

This is a darling picture book that hits on much deeper ideas than you might first expect! Not only does the book touch on the wonderful and not so wonderful things our magnificent mouths can do, it also paints a clear picture of Christ's perfectness as opposed to our shortcomings. This book is a great way to begin talking with our kids about our need for a Savior and how God's words never fail.

One small note as a content warning: there is a page that depicts a kiss in a movie theatre. It did not make me uncomfortable, however please use your own discretion.

Overall and beautiful picture book with a strong message!
